IMPORTANT INFO
We have been moving with all our stuff since December 2023. Our new location is the Stadtwirtschaft. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to offer an open workshop for the time being. Visit our homepage regularly to find out the latest news from us.

From Makers Mobility to Makers United

By Mario Voigt, 14 June, 2024

What's going on here?

Makers United is a hands-on festival for young and old. But it's not just an exciting weekend for fair visitors - the "Maker residence program", which will take place for the first time from 9 - 16 June 2024, will create a far-reaching opportunity for creative minds to network. Across Europe!

Intensive collaboration brings together ideas, minds and general tinkering with lots of caffeine. In collaboration with Maker e.V., we as Stadtfabrikanten present our colourful portfolio of member projects and the thinkers behind them. The "Maker residence program" ensures that we can not only interact with even more creative people, but also exchange new, interesting project ideas and potential collaborations for the future. Next weekend, everyone will be able to experience the fruits of our association's labour up close!

How did that come about?

Thanks to the great networking work of the European Vulca Network in cooperation with our umbrella organisation Verbund Offener Werkstätten e.V., we were able to attract a total of 19 participants to the event. As the Vulca Network offers a platform for international exchange, a total of 25 European guests from all possible cultural backgrounds have registered. On the German side, the Chaostreff Chemnitz, the Umspannwerk Etzdorf, the Sternenlabor Plauen, the Kulturhaus Klackx, the Alte Gießerei and the Lehngericht Augustusburg are among those taking part. International guests from Switzerland, Corsica, Belgium, Spain, Italy and France are also taking part.

Vulca Makers Mobility and Makers Residence

Our association has been in constant dialogue with various Vulca ambassadors since 2018. Since 2023, we have been actively preparing a European interaction. We want to breathe international life not only into our own workshop, but also into the intervention space Stadtwirtschaft. Our initial project "Perspectivum Mobile" (supported by the European Capital of Culture 2025) gave us the opportunity this year not only to develop this idea, but also to realise it.

As local representatives of the local creative scene, we are delighted to be co-supervising 7 exchange "MakerSpace'ers" this year. They all represent the most diverse creative subject areas and skills, e.g. the use of CNC machines such as 3D printers and milling machines, materials technology, ecology, software and much more.

As our own workshop is not yet fully usable for our guests, we have moved to the Lehngericht in Augustusburg (auf weiter flur e.V.) to make all the preparations for the upcoming Makers United. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the great staff at the Lehngericht - especially for the careful hosting with overnight accommodation, room and meals.

And who is there?

Our residents are:

And what's the result?

In addition to the unique networking opportunities, the collaboration offers further benefits and concrete goals. Various short-term projects such as an escape game and recycling experiments in the plastics sector (Precious Plastic) could be realised with the help of the event. Our Stadtfabrikanten have already gained their own experience in this area in recent years and have been able to shred a lot of plastic. The resulting pre-program for Makers United will be directly integrated into the school days on offer and the festival itself. This means that all visitors can experience and try out the whole thing. They can experiment, help shape the program and exchange ideas in conversation. In general, it is important to us to maintain a regular dialogue with other creative minds. Whether local or international!
